Narendra Modi's Gaffes

I have heard several speeches from Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister-elect. He definitely mesmerizes the crowd with his excellent extempore oratory skills. He covers a wide range of topics, stays relevant and makes the points crisply and clearly conveys his messages to the audience.

As a person about to occupy the nation's top post for the second time, having a reputation as a great orator, a no-nonsense politician and with opponents baying for his blood and waiting to pounce on him on every single opportunity, he cannot afford to let his guard down and make loose statements even by mistake.

In an interview to a news channel News Nation, while discussing the events related to the Balakot air strike, he mentioned that the cloud cover could help Indian air force planes in escaping from Pakistani radars.

In another incident, Modi said he used a digital camera and sent the photo by email in 1988, the year in which neither the digital camera nor the email facility was available.

Modi got trolled in the social media for both these incidents and the leaders and various members of all the opposition parties joined the party.

Though these statements caused some embarrassment, they did not cause any significant damage. It is better to leave this entertaining job to the Entertainer-in-Chief, Rahul Gandhi. One can read some funny statements made by the Congress president in the articles of Economic Times and Daily Hunt.

Modi will do well to remember that one of his own party's stalwarts, L.K.Advani had to pay a heavy price for praising Jinnah as "secular" during his visit to Karachi in 2005. It takes decades of effort to rise to some level. But one wrong utterance could bring a person all the way down. Advani had reached a pinnacle when he could mobilize a large number of people during the Rath Yatra, served the nation as the Home Minister and commanded great respect as President of BJP. But after the Jinnah incident, his downslide started from which he could not recover.

Sam Pitroda gained the admiration of the entire nation when he successfully ensured that the Telecom facility reached every nook and corner of the country. Recently he made an utterly insensitive remark while commenting on 1984 anti-Sikh riots by saying "84 me hua to hua". Instantly he lost the credibility, got reprimanded by Rahul Gandhi and had to apologize.

The motor-mouthed Navjot Singh Sidhu got into trouble for his senseless remarks after the Pulwama terror attack. It cost him the job he used to enjoy at Kapil Sharma comedy show.

Mani Shankar Aiyar got into trouble by foul-mouthing the Prime Minister and calling him as "Neech Aadmi" drawing criticisms from all around including people from his own Congress party. Clearly the man has not learned his lessons even after getting suspended from the party two years ago for making the same comment.

Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi commenting on the 1984 anti-Sikh massacre had said "When a big tree falls, the earth shakes", thereby shamelessly trying to justify the mass murders of Sikhs. I cannot believe how the people of Punjab have forgiven the Congress party and have brought them to power. Maybe Capt. Amarinder Singh, the Chief Minister of Punjab should take a leaf out of Mamata Banerjee of Bengal or Jagan Reddy of Andhra Pradesh and should walk out of the Congress and form his own powerful regional party.

Narendra Modiji, my sincere request to you is to please stay away from the "Foot in the Mouth" disease, exercise more caution and the entire nation is eagerly looking forward to you to take all of us in the path of Progress and Prosperity.
